Pilar works with adult and adolescent clients both in English and Spanish. She primarily focuses her practice on anxiety, depressed mood, trauma, grief, adjustment to life stresses/stress management. Pilar has a mindfulness and strengths-based approach to mental health and uses modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy. Pilar was born in Lima, Peru, and came to the United States as a teenager. She and her family settled in Miami, Florida. She joined the United States Marine Corps right out of high school and was honorably discharged after six years of service. In the United States, she has lived in Florida, California, and more recently Utah. She lived in England for a year in 2010. Pilar relocated to South Carolina in the spring of 2021. Pilar shares her home with her two two-legged children, toy poodles "Rumi" and "Dixie". She enjoys watching movies, reading, dancing, swimming, yoga, Pilates, and gardening. Her specialties are ADHD, Anger Management, Anxiety Disorders, Behavior Modification, Bereavement, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Crisis/Trauma, Cross-Cultural, DBT, Depression, Mood Disorders, PTSD, Stress Management, Women's Issues. Pilar received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from California State University, San Marcos, and her Master of Social Work degree from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. She is licensed as a clinical social worker in Utah and South Carolina. Before entering the mental health field, Pilar worked as a social worker in the child welfare system in California, Florida, and also spent a year working as a Child Protective Services worker in Kent County, England. Pilar has been helping clients in the mental health field since early 2016.
