Dr. Maura Castellanos, better known as Dr. Mo, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years of experience in mental health.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Nova Southeastern University, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Substance Abuse Studies. She earned both a Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship as well her postdoctoral experience in a forensic secure treatment area at Porterville Developmental Center in Porterville, CA. She stayed on as licensed psychologist at Porterville Developmental Center as part of both the clinical and assessment teams, providing therapeutic interventions and psycho diagnostic and forensic assessments for competency to stand trial and dangerousness to self and others , testifying in court as an expert witness, and the unit psychologist for both the psychological and behavior crisis units which included the suicide observation area. She has experience in inpatient, outpatient, military, and forensic settings with adolescents and adults prior to joining Lake Psychological Services.
Dr. Mo treats both adolescents (14+) and adults is able to provide individual, group, family, and marriage/couples counseling. She typically conceptualizes from a person-centered humanistic approach utilizing interventions from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and family systems theory when appropriate. Dr. Mo is trained and able to provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy. She is also trained in Brief Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for Pain (BCBT-P), Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia (BBTI), and as a Primary Care Behavioral Health Consultant. Dr. Mo conducts treatment and psychological testing for a number of disorders, including, but not limited to, ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief/loss, and substance abuse disorders, to name a few. Dr. Mo is able to provide brief treatments aimed at symptom reduction, as well as longer term treatment approaches.
Dr. Mo has a passion for working with clients to assist them in coping with and healing from the effects of trauma and is committed to continuous training to increase her knowledge and skill base in this area. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She also loves reading, particularly psychological thrillers.
