Dr, Monica Wright received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, her master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Alabama in Mobile and her Doctor of Psychology Degree from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Counseling Center at the University of South Carolina.
She remained in Columbia and began working at the Department of Juvenile Justice providing psychological evaluations to youth involved in the legal system with the goal of making recommendations to prevent further involvement. Dr. Wright has also worked with the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs and the VA Hospital here in Columbia.
Her experience includes providing Competency to Stand Trial Evaluations, Independent Medical Evaluations, General Psychological Evaluation and Neuropsychological Evaluations. Dr. Wright conducts evaluations for a range of conditions to include ADHD, learning disorders, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other psychological concerns. She also provides individual and family therapy to child, adolescent and adult clients using both cognitive behavioral techniques as well as a variety of brief solution focused interventions
Dr. Wright has been married for 16 years to Bob. She has an adolescent son with learning and developmental challenges which gives her a unique perspective on the struggle that families with these types of issues often face. In addition, she has two adult stepchildren and three young grandchildren. She is also a runner who has completed 20 marathons and 2 ultramarathons in the past 10 years.
